As a new teacher, I'm always curious to know what's going on in other classrooms. I'm excited about the enthusiasm these profiled teachers had about the new technology available to them and their students. I was intrigued by the statement broadly saying,"Education is about movement, not standing still. Students learn best under circumstances that are fluid, in classrooms that are not stagnant, but energized." And, most especially, learning in classroom that are "facilitated by leaders who know when to step back and let the learners show the way." What an exciting prospect!
Ellwood's article was a great example of how several teachers incorporate technology into their classrooms. "Education is about movement. Classrooms are energetic and facilitated by leaders that know when to step back and let the learners show the way." I think this was a great way to describe an effective classroom. Teachers and students are working together to keep the content interesting showing best practice.

I appreciated how Kathleen Moylan always incorporates choice with her content units. The students have project choices that align with their personal learning styles. As teachers we need to be reflective and think about the students' needs as well as the content. When given choices the students have so much more ownership and produce truly amazing work.

The article reminds us of several teachable moments and gives us the tools to find unanswered questions. Students need to become effective at finding the answers to questions and this technology allows lessons to widen. When students do not understand something they have information at their fingertips, giving them the tools to problem solve is much more effective then providing all the right answers.

Technology "hooks" the students and helps them take charge of their learning. The content is much better digested when students are creating meaningful projects with real world applications than simply finding answers in a textbook. As educators we need to keep moving forward and consider the needs of our students in jobs that do not even exist yet. We need to provide them with the experiences that produce the problem solving skills and creativity that they all have.
It really is a constant process, isn't it?
In my lifetime, I have watched computers go from filling a room to filling the palm of your hand. Technology has moved so quickly, and for those of us not very computer savvy, the speed has been overwhelming.

I think constant training and updates need to go along with these Smart Board products. Technology is amazing, but the number of times during the day when our internet is down, is very frustrating. We need our technology services to be dependable and not have to wonder if you’ll be able to carry out a lesson because the internet might be down.
I agree with you Carla.
“Enriched Learning Environment: Tailoring tactics and technology to meet the needs of all students” is a very informative article. Explaining in depth what other teachers at many grade levels and subject areas are doing within their classrooms using interactive white boards and the tools that go along with them is the best way for teachers who are new to the product/s to learn how to begin implementing these types of lessons into their own classrooms.

Understanding and accepting that this is the way of the future, and learning how to make it an important part of the daily routine at school will help to create learners who are interested, and maybe even excited about school. Ellwood states in the first paragraph that students need to be taught in a “fluid” style, which is constantly changing and moving rather than “static,” where there is no movement or change.

The first example given in Kathleen Moylan’s classroom is not only a great way to use the whiteboard, but also an effective way to differentiate among students. She mentions thinking of their learning styles as she plans her interactive lessons. Sometimes traditional teaching doesn’t lend itself as well to musical or kinesthetic learners, but because of the nature of these products, all learning styles are addressed naturally.

I especially enjoyed reading about utilizing the interactive whiteboard to take advantage of “teachable moments.” The example given about being able to give students answers to unanticipated questions in real time is so valuable. Anyone who has been in a classroom knows that these moments come often, depending on the grade level and subject area. There have been several times this year since I have received my whiteboard that I have been able to do this. It is extremely valuable and effective with many different levels of students. They definitely remember it!

Keeping students involved in their own learning is the most important thing that teachers can do. Engagement is everything, and using the interactive whiteboard in an appropriate, effective way as much as possible can truly make learning fun.
I enjoyed reading your reflection.
